Sheriff’s department seeking public’s help with suspicious person

NEW PALESTINE — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s help in finding a suspicious man reported to have attempted to make contact with teenage girls near New Palestine.

A press release from the sheriff’s department states that it received information on Thursday, Aug. 15 about a suspicious person and vehicle in the area of County Road 550W and U.S. 52. The vehicle was described as a newer black truck and the driver was described as a white man possibly in his mid-20s.

The man repeatedly drove up and down 550W near U.S. 52 around 7 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, according to the release.

The man was reported to have left a note inside one of the mailboxes along 550W, the release states.

“This suspicious person was attempting to make contact with teenage girls seen in this area,” according to the release.

The sheriff’s department asks anyone with information or a home-monitoring video system that would possibly show County Road 550W near the entrance of Stinemyer Crossing to contact the detective division at 317-477-1199 or Deputy Nick Ernstes at [email protected].
