CHARLOTTESVILLE — Eastern Hancock High School assistant tennis coach Chris Hardin presented a proposal Monday night for a potential new investment at the school: a tennis pavilion.

Hardin said the current structure, which houses equipment storage and bleachers for the school’s tennis courts, is “falling apart.”

The proposed new pavilion would be 28 by 26 feet with a concrete foundation, storage space and picnic tables. Hardin said it could be used by groups other than the tennis program, such as during tailgating events.

Hardin estimated the total cost of the project at $23,750. He said the Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters club had expressed willingness to pay for some of the costs, and some materials might be donated by local businesses.

“Before we even proposed this to our parents, we heard from several people that were wanting to donate,” Hardin said.

Board members said they wanted more information about what percentage of the project’s costs the corporation would need to provide before moving forward.
