County library offers variety of August events

GREENFIELD — There’s plenty to do at the Hancock County Public Library this month, with activities for all ages from a rock concert to opportunities to learn more about local history. For a full schedule of events, visit hcplibrary.org.

Here are some highlights:

“The Why Store” In Concert: The Muncie-based rock band will perform in the Greenfield library’s Community Room at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. RSVP for the free event online at hcplibrary.org or at (317) 462-5141.

Book Donation Day: Clean up this summer and get a tax break for helping the Hancock County Public Library. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 19, drop off gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and video game discs at the side delivery entrance (northeast corner) of the library in Greenfield.

Teen Games: Teens in grades 6 to 12 can challenge friends to Wii and Xbox 360 games from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Aug. 20 at the library in Greenfield.

Genealogy Interest Group: The public is invited to research their ancestors from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 in the library’s Greenfield computer lab. Sign up for this free event is at hcplibrary.org or by calling (317) 462-5141, ext. 240.

Tween Coder Dojo Sessions: Tweens ages 9 to 12 can sit in with coder dojo Myron Snelson from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Hancock County Public Library’s Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine. Sign up for this free event at (317) 861-6618, ext. 313, or online hcplibrary.org

Friends of the Library Book Sale: The Friends of the Hancock County Public Library will hold their gently-used book sale Aug. 22-26, at the Greenfield location. The Friends also offer audio books, DVDs and CDs.

Ask a Local History Expert: Hancock County’s official historian, Joe Skvarenina, will be available for informal conversations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 24 in the library’s local history room.
