Kids can learn to survive natural disasters
NEW PALESTINE — Kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to learn about natural disasters from 5 to 6 p.m. Aug. 13 at Hancock County Public Library’s Sugar Creek Branch, 5731 W. U.S. 52. This hands-on STEM program will include a simulated volcanic eruption, a hurricane and an earthquake, and a discussion of the types of structures that can best survive these events. Teens can make metal engraved pendants
GREENFIELD — Teens in Grades 6 through 12 can design and create pendants for necklaces, keychains or bracelets at 3:45 p.m. Aug.13 at Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Attendees will be able to experiment with an electric engraving pen to personalize their jewelry and keychains. Register at hcplibrary.org to attend this free program.
Big Top Circus is part of Indiana State Fair
INDIANAPOLIS — Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls and circus lovers from around the world can enjoy the Big Top Circus daily on the north side of the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St. Included in the price of admission, the circus will perform three shows daily at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. Those wanting to secure reserved seating with no wait can purchase a Fast-Pass ticket for $5 at the circus tent. Spectators can expect horses, acrobats, clowns, quick-change artists, muscle men and trapeze artists as part of the entertainment. Seating is limited to 1,600 per show. Featured acts include: Bello Nock, known as the World’s Greatest Comic Daredevil; Dinny McGuire as the Master of the Ring; Ambra Zerbini-Bauer, an aerialist and horsewoman; Adam & Anton, demonstrating an exhibition of balance, strength and physical endurance; and costume quick-change artists, the Bileas.
