HANCOCK COUNTY — Hancock Regional Hospital will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week in early August with a “latch on” event and milk drive.

The annual Hancock County Latch On will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Aug. 3 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. The “Global Big Latch On” starts at 10:30 a.m., and there will also be refreshments and special prize drawings available, according to a Hancock Regional Hospital press release.

Hancock Regional also plans to partner with the Milk Bank, a non-profit based in Indianapolis, to host a mother’s milk donor drive from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 5 in the lower-level Keen classroom at the hospital, 801 N. State St. in Greenfield. Mothers who wish to participate should bring their excess milk to the hospital to donate. They will have to fill out a medical history form and will also receive a blood draw.

The milk donations will be used to feed pre-term and ill babies in newborn intensive care units.
