Longtime pastor retires

GREENFIELD — Dr. Randall Parker has retired after 31 years as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Greenfield.

The church is celebrating his ministry with a retirement dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday (July 13).

Sunday, the service at 10:30 a.m. will feature guest speakers, Dr. Richard Wallace of Dallas and Dr. John Reynolds of Athens, Georgia. A testimony service is planned for 6 p.m.

Since retiring in May, Parker has been a guest speaker at churches across the country.

The Rev. Tommy Hensley, who has served in various pastoral roles at the church since joining its staff in 2012, has been voted in as the church’s new pastor.

Pizza meal benefits Love INC

GREENFIELD — Diners at Greenfield locations of Mozzi’s Pizza on Tuesday can support the Christian clearinghouse ministry Love INC.

A flyer is posted on the organization’s Facebook page, “Love INC of Greater Hancock County.” Present the flyer, or show it to your server on your phone, and the restaurant will donate 20 percent of your purchase price to the organization.

St. John invites community to dinner, service

CUMBERLAND — St. John United Church of Christ, 11910 E. Prospect St., will serve dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Everyone is welcome.

After the meal, at 7 p.m., will be a service, “Experiencing God through Light.”

Gathering features pulled pork dinner, children’s activities

GREENFIELD — The eighth annual luau and car show is set for 5 to 7 p.m. July 28 at Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St., Greenfield.

This event has grown over the years from an ice cream social to a barbecue dinner and is offered free to the community.

A free-will offering will be accepted. Organizers will also accept school items for the Backpack Attack program; local school supply lists will be available at Walmart and Kroger.

The menu again includes a pulled pork dinner with baked beans, chips, drinks and ice cream. Entertainment includes a disc jockey, a classic car “cruise-in,” an inflatable, water balloon launcher, face painting and other children’s activities.

Representatives of Greenfield Police Department and Greenfield Fire Territory will be on hand to show their vehicles and equipment.

“It is our hope to invite people to come to downtown Greenfield for a fun summer event,” read a release from the church.

African Children’s Choir coming

GREENFIELD — The African Children’s Choir will perform at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 4 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1450 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Admission is free; a free-will offering will follow the choir’s concert.

The choir’s “Just As I Am” tour combines traditional hymns with African cultural sounds and a stunning visual story of God’s faithfulness.

The free-will offering will help support the Music for Life Institute. The African Children’s Choir has been Music for Life’s major international program during its 34-year history. Music for Life (MFL) has relief and development programs in seven African countries. MFL has educated more than 52,000 children, and hundreds of thousands of lives have been impacted by its international relief and development programs.

Auto show events planned

McCORDSVILLE — Cars and Coffee, an event that offers people coffee, donuts and social/networking opportunities, is planned for several mornings this summer at Outlook Christian Church, 6531 N. County Road 600W, McCordsville.

People are welcome to attend with or without a car to show.

Events are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. July 13 and 27, and Aug. 10 and 24.

Dinner has summer theme

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church’s next community dinner is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday (July 13) at the church, 6247 W. Broadway, McCordsville.

A “Summer Splash” menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, coney dogs, fresh salads, desserts and ice cream.

FORTVILLE — Fortville United Methodist Church will serve a free hotdog lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays through July 22 in Landmark Park, east of the church building at 125 E. Staat St.

Harvest of Talents adding car show

FORTVILLE — The third annual Harvest of Talents fundraiser is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at Fortville Christian Church, 9450 N. County Road 200W.

Decor, furniture and other items will be for sale. Live and silent auctions are also planned.

Breakfast will be available at 9 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Car show registration runs from 9 a.m. to noon, with awards given at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $20. Deadline is Aug. 30.
