GREENFIELD — For the second time in the past twp months, the IHSAA unveiled new sectional alignments for football starting this fall.

Due to changes to the way the Tournament Success Factor works, updates were made in a Friday meeting and announced via press release on Monday. With teams playing up a class needing just two points now instead of three to stay where they are at, both Indianapolis Cathedral and Fort Wayne Snider had to be re-aligned.

Snider has been moved back to Class 6A, into Sectional 3, while Cathedral has been moved back to 5A and into Sectional 13. That puts the Irish back into a sectional where the winner would play the winner of Sectional 14, which New Palestine will compete in.

Other changes were needed due to the consolidation of Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial into a bigger school, Elkhart High School, starting in 2020. The new Elkhart school will compete in 6A, meaning Zionsville, the smallest 6A team, will compete in 6A in 2019 but move down to 5A, into Sectional 12, in 2020.

Several teams will have slight sectional adjustments in 2020, the most notable being Carmel, which will move from the north side of the 6A bracket to the south in 2020, moving from Sectional 4 to Sectional 5.
