June 11

In 1990, Greenfield Planning Commission gave primary plat approval to an 18-acre industrial park on the south side of New Road, a quarter-mile west of State Road 9. The project by Greenwalt Development included an office complex and warehouse buildings.

June 12

In 2004, New Palestine High School’s softball team captured the Class 3A state title, the program’s first, defeating West Lafayette 5-1 at Cherry Tree Softball Complex in Carmel.

In 2009, New Palestine High School’s softball team repeated as Class 3A state champions, winning the program’s third title (2004, 2008, 2009) by defeating Andrean 10-0 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Senior pitcher Sara Evans won the statewide Mental Attitude Award.

June 14

In 1990, Greenfield City Council adopted a resolution establishing a sister city relationship between Greenfield and Kakuda, Japan, home of Keihin’s parent companies.

June 15

In 1973, the Community School Corp. of Southern Hancock County revoked a regulation the prohibited participation in extracurricular activities by married students and students who had been pregnant or were court-determined fathers. The Indiana Civil Liberties Union had filed a lawsuit.

June 16

In 1944, Sgt. Allen M. Holding of Greenfield was killed on Saipan Island in the South Pacific during World War II. The 26-year-old was a Greenfield High School graduate and onetime Daily Reporter newsboy.

June 17

In 2000, Mt. Vernon High School’s softball team captured the Class 2A state title, defeating Evansville Memorial 6-0 at Cherry Tree Softball Complex in Carmel.
