GREENFIELD — A downtown boutique is cutting back on space and operating hours while maintaining its presence online.
Jessica Green, owner of Lucy Couture Boutique at 19 W. North St., said her business is moving to a smaller space toward the back of the property. It’s about 450 to 500 square feet, she said, compared to the 1,200-square-foot store she’s been operating out of. The new location can be accessed both through the current store and via a separate entrance.
Green continues to determine what the new space’s exact days and hours will be, but said it will likely be open a couple nights a week and perhaps a couple weekends a month. Merchandise will continue to be available on the boutique’s website, lucycoutureboutique.com, which Green said has been drawing more and more sales as of late.
One of the reasons for the changes is Green’s return to the private sector in October. She said maintaining both professions is spreading her too thin.
“It’s been hard for me to be at the boutique and even harder for me to be present the way that I want to be,” Green said.
And with her unable to be at the boutique as much, her staff has been having to fill the gap, making it difficult for them to take time off, Green continued.
The business will also be able to save on expenses after moving into a smaller space, she said, adding the boutique’s apparel will continue to be available online along with a limited selection at the new brick-and-mortar location for those who enjoy stopping by in person.
“That just gives us the best of both worlds,” Green said.
Lucy Couture Boutique opened in 2014 next door in what is now Andree’s Floral Designs. Green later moved her business to the shopping center near Walmart for three years before returning downtown.
Green’s husband, Justin, owns the property she’s been operating in and already has a new tenant for the space she’s moving out of.
The boutique is having a celebration for its new spot from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
