Mt. Vernon sophomore falls in tennis tourney

Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 singles player Lydia Ruegsegger competed in the individual tennis tournament on Thursday, falling to Fishers, 1-6, 1-6.

Ruegsegger finished her sophomore year with a 15-5 record.

"Lydia built on a good freshman year to a really good sophomore year," Mt. Vernon coach Gabe Muterspaugh said. "We know that Lydia will work to get faster, stronger and have more weapons. We want her to be a vocal leader and help lead us to (sectional) No. 7 in a row and emerge as one of the top players in the state."

5v5 basketball tournament set for Riley Park

A group of Mt. Vernon athletes have put together a winner-take-all basketball tournament scheduled for 5 p.m. on June 14 at Riley Park in Greenfield.

Seniors Peyton Meadors, Max Burhenn and Sam McCarty planned the event, which is a 5v5 tournament that is open to any boys players from the county or Hoosier Heritage Conference that are in high school or older. Buy-in to compete is $20 per team.

The goal of the tournament is simple — the trio hopes to bring people from around the county together to have a fun day of playing basketball.
