INDIANAPOLIS — The 2019 season is over for all but one member of Mt. Vernon’s girls tennis team.

For the second time in the past few weeks, the Marauders faced off against Hamilton Southeastern on Wednesday, this time in a regional match at North Central.

The Marauders lost the first match, 5-0, with a shorthanded lineup. At full strength on Wednesday, they lost again in the regional, 4-1, seeing their season come to an end.

Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 singles player Lydia Ruegsegger, who was out with an injury the first time the Marauders and Royals played, was the lone victor for her team. She won 6-3, 6-1, advancing to play Fishers today in the singles tournament.

Wednesday’s match was the sixth straight year the Marauders played in the regional. They were defeated in the regional round the past three years by Cathedral, twice in the semifinal and once, in 2015, in the regional final. The loss to Hamilton Southeastern was the final high school match for seniors Kaleigh Helm, Maeve Laughlin and exchange student Louisa Batge.
