Weather postpones tennis, track sectionals

Thursday night’s tennis and track sectionals were postponed due to inclement weather and are scheduled to be made up today.

The boys track sectional at Warren Central is still set for 5:30 p.m., as is the Mt. Vernon sectional.

The girls tennis sectional semifinals will start at approximately 4 p.m. at Mt. Vernon, with New Palestine facing Eastern Hancock and Greenfield-Central facing Mt. Vernon. If the Dragons win, the championship match will be played 45 minutes after the semifinals wrap up. If the Royals win, the championship will be Saturday morning.

Baseball

Marauders cruise to road victory

Mt. Vernon scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and rolled past Connersville on Wednesday, picking up an 18-1 road victory.

Hunter Dobbins had three hits and three RBIs. Nolan Bowser had two hits and four RBIs. Austin Sumner had three RBIs on one hit. Sam McCarty, Jackson Dunlavy and Thomas Obergfell also each had two hits.

AJ Swingle pitched 3.0 innings, allowing the only two Connersville hits while striking out two. Jake Stadler and Bowser each pitched an inning, striking out two.

Softball

Marauders blank Trojans on Wednesday

Mt. Vernon broke up a scoreless game with four runs in the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday, topping New Castle, 4-0.

Haley Kissee had two doubles and two RBIs for the Marauders. Anelise Worden had two hits and an RBI.

Karlee Franklin got a complete-game shutout in the circle, striking out four, walking none and allowing just three hits.
