Softball

Dragons down Spartans

New Palestine rolled past Connersville on Tuesday, 9-0, as the Dragons allowed just one hit while racking up 14 of their own.

Jaylin Calvert led the Dragons offense with three hits, while Michaela Jones had three RBIs. Tatum Biddle hit her first home run of the season.

Sam Booe struck out eight in four innings, while Katie Kottlowski pitched 2.2 innings, striking out three.

Marauders shut out Raiders

Mt. Vernon hosted Shenandoah on Tuesday, with two pitchers combining to throw a two-hit shutout in a 7-0 win.

The Marauders offense was led by Haley Kissee, who had two hits and two RBIs. Macey Cox and Anelise Worden also had a pair of hits each.

Molly Buck threw four innings for the hosts, striking out six. Karlee Frankin threw three innings, striking out two.

Cougars fall to Arabians

Greenfield-Central had a rough outing Tuesday against HHC opponent Pendleton Heights, falling 16-0 in five innings.

The Cougars managed three hits in the game, singles from Shelby Cobb, Tori Daffron and Ellie Ewald.

Hannah Holden and Madge Weidner each pitched more than two innings, combining to allow 14 hits and six earned runs, with 10 unearned runs.

Royals get MEC win

Eastern Hancock picked up another important conference win Tuesday, topping Randolph Southern, 8-2.

Caroline Stapleton had three hits, including a triple, for the Royals. Paige Wickard had three RBIs. Megan Bever, Kaylee Stewart and Wickard each had two hits.

Maddie Turner and Jessi Potts combined to strike out 15 batters in the win.

Baseball

Marauders win in extras

After tying the game with runs in the sixth and seventh, Mt. Vernon won in nine innings Tuesday, topping New Castle, 5-4.

Nolan Bowser led the Marauders with two hits, a double and an RBI.

Will Nelson pitched five innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Shaun Shipley and Eli Clotfelter each pitched two innings, allowing no hits.

Dragons fall in 8th

New Palestine rallied from a two-run deficit in the seventh to send its game to extra innings Tuesday, but Fishers scored twice in the eighth to beat the Dragons, 5-3.

The Dragon offense was efficient, tallying three runs on four hits. Colby Jenkins was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Zach Neligh was 2-for-3 with a run. Noah Mack had the Dragons’ other hit. NP also drew six walks and left seven on base. Fishers had 12 hits and left eight runners on.

Josh Jaques allowed one run and four hits in three innings, fanning two. Jaden Jaques also pitched three innings, allowing five hits, two runs and fanning two. Vincent Dant pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits, two runs and striking out two.

Royals get big win

Eastern Hancock got a run-rule win Tuesday against Morristown, 17-3.

The Royals scored the 17 runs on just seven hits, led by two from Landon Stanley, who also had a team-leading three RBIs. Andy Locker and Keegan Bowman each drove in two RBIs for the Royals.

Four Eastern Hancock pitchers combined to allow just four hits while striking out five.

Boys golf

Dragons top Royals, Raiders

New Palestine shot 160 Tuesday at Royal Hylands to win a triangular meet with Shenandoah (166) and Eastern Hancock (193).

Sammy Chifalo and Matthew Barada each shot 39 for the Dragons. Quinn Dobbins and Braeden Baker shot 41s.

Cougars top Bears

Greenfield-Central pulled out another victory last night in some tough conditions at Shelbyville, winning 175-185.

The Cougars were led by match medalist Noah Mohler’s 42. Kyle Arrowood’s 43 and Zach Archer had a 44. Canyen Palmer came in with a 46 to complete the scoring.

Cougars win home match

Greenfield-Central had its last home match of the season against Pendleton Heights on Tuesday.

At No. 2 doubles, Kaleigh Stephenson and her partner Grace Silcox had a perfect night, winning 6-0, 6-0. The 1 doubles pair of Aly Proper and Erin Wright also played very well, winning 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 1 singles, Avery Spencer earned the third point for the Cougars with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
