FORTVILLE — The Dragons made it three in a row.

Jordan Reid made it a record-setting night.

New Palestine won its third straight Hoosier Heritage Conference Girls Track and Field Championship at Mt. Vernon High School on Tuesday, claiming nine titles, including all three relay races.

“We did really well tonight,” New Palestine girls track coach Chuck Myers said. “We’ve got a great group of girls. A lot have been here for all three.

“We won all the events on the track except for the 800 and hurdles, and scored in about every event, an excellent job.”

New Palestine finished with 140 points. Greenfield-Central was second with 106.5. Mt. Vernon finished fifth with 76.

Reid won four events, including a pair of meet records in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. She also anchored the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay.

For the New Palestine junior, it has been a long road back.

She suffered an ACL injury during her sophomore soccer season. Last year’s HHC meet was her first contest of her sophomore year.

This time around, she was 100 percent healthy and her performance showed it.

“After basketball season, coach said he had high expectations and asked if I was ready,” Reid said. “I was excited to be 100 percent this season, so I told him, ‘Let’s get to work.’”

Reid won the 100 in 12.14 seconds, setting a new meet record. The old mark was 12.17, set in 2003 by Delta’s Christina Poulson.

In the 200, Reid broke the mark she set as a freshman. She ran 25.17 seconds on Tuesday. The old record was 25.60.

Both individual runs were school records, too.

“I wasn’t expecting to get records,” Reid said. “I just wanted to get some wins to help our team win. It was a perfect night.”

It was a big night for a lot of Dragons.

Sophia Taylor was part of three victories. She won the 400 (1:00.28), led off the 4×400 relay and was the third leg of the 4×800.

Kaylin Casner won the 1,600 meter run (5:19.23) and anchored the 4×800.

Kendall Mann was victorious in the 3,200 (11:49.20), and Aden Lumbley won the shot put (37’4”).

Brenna Shaw was part of victories in both the 4×800 relay and 4×400 relay.

It was a strong night for Greenfield-Central, too. The Cougars had three champions, giving Hancock County 12 of the 16 victors.

“Our goal was second, and we either scored where we were seeded or above our seeds,” Greenfield-Central coach Reuben McCracken said. “It was great to see everything come together for them tonight.”

Crystal Peterson swept the hurdle races, winning the 100 (16.86 seconds) and 300 (47.97). Hannah Burkhart was victorious in the discus with a distance of 125’4”. Burkhart won the event for the second straight year.

“I was very happy with how they performed,” McCracken said. “I expected Hannah and when Pendleton Heights’ scratched (hurdles top seed) Patience Sakeuh, it opened the door for Crystal to take advantage and she did.

“It was a great night all the way around.”

Burkhart wasn’t the only area repeat winner.

Reid in the 200, Mann in the 3,200, Lumbley in the shot put and all three Dragon relays were winners in last season’s conference championship.
