Softball

Dragons cruise to win

New Palestine rolled to a run-rule win Tuesday at Class 4A No. 7 Cathedral, 14-2.

Emily O’Connor was 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring three times. Michaela Jones, Tatum Biddle and Emma Tucher each had two hits and two runs scored. Tucher, Raegan Hiatt, Jones, Sam Booe and Macy Miller each had two RBIs.

Booe went five innings in the circle, striking out three. Kaylea Bullock pitched the final inning, striking out one.

Marauders top Bears

Mt. Vernon picked up an HHC road win Tuesday at Shelbyville, 8-2.

Riley Hasseld led the Marauders with a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Macey Cox drove in two RBIs with a triple, and Anelise Worden also drove in two runs.

Karlee Franklin threw a complete-game shutout, striking out three and allowing seven hits while walking none.

Royals roll again

Eastern Hancock won its third straight game via run-rule, topping Monroe Central 14-0 on Tuesday.

Caroline Stapleton had a huge game for the Royals, going 3-for-3 with two triples and five RBIs. Megan Bever and Kaylee Stewart each had two hits, part of 14 total for Eastern Hancock.

Maddie Turner pitched all five innings, striking out eight, walking none and allowing just one hit in the win.

Baseball

Marauders hang on

Mt. Vernon held off a huge Shenandoah rally on Tuesday, picking up a 9-8 win on the road.

The Marauders held a 9-3 lead heading into the final inning before the Raiders rallied. Sam McCarty led the offense with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, driving in two RBIs. Mason Montgomery had a triple, and Jake Stank and Austin Sumner each had two hits.

Matt Lood got the win on the mound, going three innings and striking out five while allowing one earned run. Jackson Dunlavy pitched 3.2 innings, striking out six and allowing five runs. Shaun Shipley got the save.

Royals offense stalls

Eastern Hancock found itself on the wrong end of a shutout on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to Randolph Southern.

The Royals actually out-hit their opponents, seven to two, with Wyatt Sutton and Jakob Harris each nabbing two hits. The Royals stranded eight runners in the loss.

Five pitchers combined in the two-hit effort for Eastern Hancock, but struck out three while walking seven.

Girls tennis

Dragons win close match

New Palestine won a tough match Tuesday against Southwestern, 3-2.

The No. 2 doubles team of Sheridan Schrowe/Ashley Truman won 6-0, 6-1 to get the Dragons on the board. Playing her first varsity match, freshman Abby Blachly won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Claire Cherry/Josee King won 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 to clinch the match.

Cougars get win

Greenfield-Central got a conference win Tuesday, topping Shelbyville 4-1.

The No. 2 doubles team of Kaleigh Stephenson and Grace Silcox was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Grace Hall got the second point with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

Avery Spencer and Nae Pattakul went to three sets, with Spencer winning at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2, and Pattakul winning 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Royals pick up win

Eastern Hancock got above .500 for the season on Tuesday, topping Morristown 4-1.

Cassandra Hannemann won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Valentina Brooks won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Royals won both doubles positions. Chloe McCarty and Bella Witte won 6-0, 6-1, and Corina Jennings and Kalyn Edwards got a quick 6-0, 6-0 win.
