GREENFIELD — Voters have a few days left to cast early ballots before Tuesday’s primary election.
Nearly 700 people have already voted early, according to election officials. Residents have been able to vote since April 9. Early voting lasts until noon Monday the Hancock County Courthouse.
The county has five contested races in the Republican primary: two spots on the Greenfield City Council; two on the Fortville Town Council; and one race for the McCordsville Town Council. There are no Democratic contested races. The primary elections are not countywide. Only people in those municipalities may vote.
In addition to the courthouse, people can also vote early at McCordsville Town Hall and the Fortville Community Center until Saturday and at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield until Sunday.
Election officials anticipate low turnout this year compared to the past two municipal primary elections. For the 2015 primary, 2,703 people voted; 3,269 voted in the 2011 primary. Both elections had contested GOP mayoral races.
Voting on Tuesday lasts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at five Hancock County locations.
