Royals roll to win

In a preview of the May 20 sectional opener, Eastern Hancock traveled to Heritage Christian on Monday and got a quick run-rule win, 18-1.

The Royals scored 10 runs in the second inning to blow the game open. Megan Bever, Caroline Stapleton, Eriel Truitt, Kaylee Stewart, Hannah Lewis and Paige Wickard each had two hits for the Royals, who had 16 total. Stapleton led the offense with four RBIs, while Truitt, Wickard, Maddie Turner and Alivia Gerde each had two RBIs.

Jessi Potts got the win in the circle, throwing a complete game and striking out eight, walking none, and allowing the one run on two hits.

Cougars fall to walk-off

Greenfield-Central took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning against New Castle on Monday before a walk-off grand slam dropped the Cougars, 8-4.

Caroline Gibson, recently back from injury, got her first hit of the season in the loss. Lexi Rankin had a shutout going through four innings before an injury took her out of the game.

The Cougars fall to 13-4 and 2-3 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with the defeat.

Dragons down Warriors

Led by a four-hit shutout by Jaden Jaques, New Palestine blanked host Warren Central 10-0 in five innings Monday.

Jaques allowed just five baserunners in the game, with none getting past second base. He allowed one walk and struck out five.

Noah Mack led the Dragons’ offense with two doubles and two RBIs. Colby Jenkins was 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Jack Walker was 1-for-4 with a run. Eric Roudebush was 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Jacob Bain was also 1-for-3 with a run. Zach Neligh was 1-for-3 as the Dragons outhit the hosts 8-4.

Royals fall on road

Eastern Hancock lost a road conference game Monday, falling to host Blue River Valley, 8-3.

Trey Brown had two hits to lead the Royals. Landon Kintner had a two-RBI home run.

Andy Locker, Kyle Lacy, Chris Craney and Trey Brown each threw at least one inning on the mound, combining to allow eight hits and seven earned runs.

Dragons best Marauders

In a preview of Tuesday’s county golf tournament, New Palestine topped county rival Mt. Vernon on Monday at Arrowhead, 151-156.

Quinn Dobbins and Josh Shinkle were co-medalists with a one-under par 34 for the Dragons. Braden Baker shot 39 and Matt Barada 44.

Sam McWilliams, John Husar and Elijah Dunham all had a 38 for Mt. Vernon.  Haiden Rose had a 42, and Blake Johnson added a 45.
