Local service to mark National Day of Prayer

GREENFIELD — A service to mark the National Day of Prayer is set for noon May 2 on the Hancock County Courthouse Plaza near the southeast corner of State and Main streets.

Greater Greenfield Ministerial Association is organizing the event, which will include prayers related to various topics, such as families, government, medicine and others.

Everyone interested in joining in prayer is welcome to attend.

Willow Branch dinner is today

WILLOW BRANCH — Willow Branch United Methodist Church’s Spring Dinner is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday (April 27).

The menu features cube steak or homemade chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, and various homemade salads and desserts.

A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit local missions projects. Carry-out is available.

Easter festivities continue with cantata

GREENFIELD — The Easter cantata “Behold! God’s Holy Lamb” will be performed at 10:45 a.m. Sunday (April 28) at Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St., Greenfield.

It will be performed by the Greenfield Christian Chancel Choir and Greenfield Symphony Orchestra.

Choir from mission school to perform

NEW PALESTINE — The Cardinal Singers will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday (April 28) at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 S. CR 500W.

The ensemble is from Red Bird Christian School in Beverly, Kentucky. The concert is is part of an annual Spring Tour that will stop in Indiana and Illinois this year.

The concert will include vocal music, drama, and a 24-member dulcimer ensemble.

In addition to the musical program, a small display of traditional Appalachian crafts produced in the area of Red Bird Mission will be available for purchase. Everyone is invited to this free concert of contemporary and traditional Christian music.

Red Bird Mission is a National Mission Institution in covenant with the United Methodist Women located in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. The mission serves the needs of families through programs including a preK-12 school with approximately 230 students.

Plant sale to fund sanctuary banners

BUCK CREEK TOWNSHIP — Amity United Methodist Church’s 16th annual plant sale is set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 4 at the church, 6042 W. County Road 100N.

The sale will feature small trees, annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, lilies, bushes, birdhouses, barn wood creations, watercolor greeting cards, Mother’s Day gifts and large porch pots.

Rummage sale starts Friday

McCORDSVILLE — The United Methodist Women will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 4 at McCordsville United Methodist Church, 6247 W. Broadway, McCordsville.

Family to share music

FORTVILLE — Fortville Church of the Nazarene will play host to a morning of praise and worship led by the Mark Dubbeld Family at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 5.

An offering for their ministry will be received.

The family from Moneta, Virginia, write its own music, performs in harmony, and aims to communicate the Gospel through their music and testimony.

The family consists of Mark and Janene along with their children Elena, 22; Channing, 17; and Britton, 14. Each plays an active role in the ministry.

The family has been the featured artist at National Quartet Convention for several years, featured on The Gospel Great Radio Program and generated seven Top 40 singles on the Southern Gospel charts, among other achievements.

Mt. Lebanon United Methodist plans fish fry

GREENFIELD — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9, Greenfield, will play host to its Spring Fish Fry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 11.

The menu will include fried fish, French fries, hush puppies, baked beans, slaw, desserts and beverages. Hot dogs and carry-out will also be available. A free-will offering will be accepted, with proceeds used for missions and special projects.

Group of churches offers scholarship

NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine Fellowship of Churches will give a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who attends or is a member or constituent of one of the churches affiliated with the Fellowship.

Applications are available in church offices or the guidance office at New Palestine High School. They may be turned in there as well.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and show evidence of enrollment. They do not have to attend New Palestine High School.

Selection criteria include participation in church activities, community involvement and scholarship, with special emphasis on the statement of faith in daily life.

Applications are due before Wednesday.

The churches in the fellowship are Community Christian Church, New Palestine Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), New Palestine United Church (His Place) on U.S. 52, and New Palestine United Methodist Church on Gem Road.
