Hancock Regional Hospital awarded Komen grant

GREENFIELD — Susan G. Komen Central Indiana is awarding $39,108 in funding to Hancock Regional Hospital.

The funding, part of the current Komen grant cycle, will be used to support the Andis Women’s Clinic. The clinic’s priorities are providing breast health education, individual risk assessment, and referrals to screening and diagnostic services to the counties it serves.

“Hancock Health’s women’s clinic team is honored to be selected as a Komen Central Indiana grantee for 2019,” said Lisa Wood, director of diagnostic imaging. “We are excited this is our 19th year partnering with Komen. This grant will help us work toward our goal to decrease late stage breast cancer through education, clinical services, patient navigation and collaboration with other grantees. We want to increase awareness in our community and surrounding communities so women will know their risk, get screened and make them aware they have a place to come if they are uninsured or underinsured. We passionately support Komen’s bold goal to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by 50 percent by 2026.”

The clinic helps underinsured women by providing financial assistance and removing barriers to care. Grant funds will provide clinical breast exams, diagnostic services, screening mammograms and MRIs for patients at high risk for breast cancer.

Businesses constructing new 30,000-square-foot building

GREENFIELD — Two Greenfield businessmen looking to move their companies out of their homes are constructing a building on the city’s north side.

Wahl’s Custom Plumbing and B&B Site Maintenance are developing the 30,000-square-foot building at 2001 Royal Drive. The site is west of Franklin Street along New Road.

Adam Wahl of Wahl’s Custom Plumbing said his business and B&B Site Maintenance will occupy 10,000 square feet each; the remaining 10,000 square feet will be available for rent.

Wahl said he and B&B Site Maintenance president Blaine Leatherman now operate their companies out of their homes.

“He was looking to get his business out of his house, and so was I,” Wahl said of the motivation behind the project.

Wahl said the building should be operational by August.
