HANCOCK COUNTY — In celebration of Arbor Day, Regreening Greenfield will offer free tree seedlings starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Hancock County Courthouse Plaza. Distribution continues while supplies last.

Varieties include 100 each: black chokeberry (Indiana native tree), Chinkapin oak, red pine, redbud, shagbark hickory, sycamore, and Virginia pine.

Donations are welcome and encouraged. Proceeds benefit Regreening tree-planting projects around the city. Student volunteers from Maxwell Intermediate School Student Council will assist Regreening members.

Regreening Greenfield members Sally Parsons and Tera Payne told the Greenfield City Council earlier this month that the organization expects to plant 40 trees in the city this year.

Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell will present a proclamation for National Arbor Day at the Wednesday, April 24, city council meeting.

The local Arbor Day Celebration supports the Regreening mission to contribute to the quality of community life through the preservation and restoration of the city’s urban forest.
