Softball

Royals fall to HSE

Eastern Hancock fell behind visiting Hamilton Southeastern by six runs in the first inning and couldn’t come back, falling to 2-2-1 on the season with an 11-4 loss Monday.

Megan Bever and Faithe Webster each had two hits for the Royals, while six other batters had one. Maddie Turner threw four innings, allowing 15 hits and six earned runs. Elise Bittinger pitched three innings, allowing three hits and no runs.

Marauders blank Hornets

Mt. Vernon scored at least two runs in each inning Monday, getting a five-inning, run-rule win against Beech Grove, 16-0.

Hunter Dobbins and Sam McCarty each had three hits and four RBIs to help pace the Marauders at the plate. Thomas Obergfell had two hits and Payton Bovard had a hit and three RBIs.

Matt Lood pitched three innings, striking out six and allowing two hits. Mason Montgomery and Shaun Shipley each pitched one inning, combining to strike out four and allow just one hit.

Boys golf

Dragons swing to win

New Palestine topped Triton Central on Monday, 153 to 165.

The Dragons were led by Quinn Dobbins, who shot a 36. Chris Guhl had a 39, and Matt Kelley and Matt Barada each shot 39.

Cougars get tri win

Greenfield-Central picked up a win Monday, shooting a 162 to top Morristown (213) and Anderson (230).

The Cougars were led by Canyen Palmer and Noah Mohler, who both shot a 38. Kyle Arrowood added a 41 and sophomore Matthew Kaser rounded out the scoring with a 45.

Marauders earn split

Mt. Vernon finished second in a tri match Monday, as Yorktown won with a 157, Mt. Vernon shot a 163 and Lapel finished with a 168.

Sam McWilliams was co-medalist with a 37. John Husar had a 40, Haiden Rose and Elijah Dunham each shot a 43, Blake Johnson had a 45 and Aden Capalletti had a 48.

Girls tennis

Cougars fall on road

Greenfield-Central faced off against host Warren Central on Monday, falling 3-2.

The two wins for the Cougars came at the doubles positions. No. 1 double teammates Aly Proper and Erin Wright and No. 2 doubles duo Kaleigh Stephenson and Grace Silcox each earned wins.

Royals get sweep

Eastern Hancock picked up a quick 5-0 victory on Monday, topping Anderson Prep Academy.

Cassandra Hannemann won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Valentina Brooks won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Corina Jennings won by forfeit at No. 3 singles. At the doubles positions, Chloe McCarty and Katie Brown won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, and Madison Hagan and Kalyn Edwards won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
