To the editor:

The Hancock County Council and commissioners are just testing us to see if we are paying attention to their financing of the proposed new jail. Right?

Some of us have, in fact, noticed, and we can’t believe that anyone in their right mind would build a $43 million new jail and not have enough money to staff it.

So we don’t want our commissioners and council members to have a new jail sitting there vacant as an answer to the question: Why do we teach math in school?

So, kindly listen up. The new tax available for jails is to pay for both construction of a new jail and the staffing of that jail. If you use all of the available money on construction, there is nothing left to pay to staff it. So, X-X=0

Meanwhile, you are paying very large sums of money on engineering fees that will be wasted. If you don’t understand this upcoming financial disaster, then please resign and let someone else who does understand the math take over.
