Myra Jean Ferris, age 88 passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019 in McCordsville. She was born June 7, 1930 to the late Clancy E. and Mildred A. Fox. Jean was a 1948 graduate of New Palestine High School and was the valedictorian of her senior class. She went on to attend Indiana University.

While attending I.U. she performed with the Garrett Cope’s dance troop (which was the first to perform “Parsifal”, the opera at I.U.). Jean married David A. Ferris on September 17, 1954. Prior to her retirement, Jean was the secretary at Mount Vernon Middle School. Active in her community, Jean had many interests, she was an avid golfer and long-time member of Greenfield Country Club where she won the first flight championship her first year of playing. She went on to serve as the president of the Ladies Golf Association and Psi Iota Sorority. Jean was a talented painter and painted for Lazarus, Macy’s, L.S. Ayres and several other retailers. She enjoyed traveling and visited several countries including Africa, Europe, Germany and Russia. Jean was a Master Gardener and loved flower and landscape design.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved and took great pride in being a grandmother. She was especially proud and enjoyed a special relationship with her grandson Nathan who is currently serving his country as an officer in the United States Army.

Jean in survived by her children, Steven Alan (Penny) Ferris, Stacey Adele (Mark) Johnson; grandson, Nathan Spenser; and nephews, Matthew (Theresa) Oertle and Mark (Debbie) Oertle.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Celebration of Life Service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Woods officiating.
