RICHMOND – For the first time since 2012, the New Palestine Dragons are boys basketball sectional champions.

The Dragons outlasted county rival Mt. Vernon on Saturday night in Richmond, pulling away in the second half for a 61-43 victory.

New Palestine led by six at the half, but Mt. Vernon stormed back early in the third to cut the deficit to one. That’s when Dragons senior Dylan Romine took over.

Romine scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half, nailing five 3-pointers and pushing the Dragons ahead for good. Dawson Eastes added 19 points for New Palestine.

Mt. Vernon was led by 11 points from Keith Rupert and 9 from Brandon Bell.
