Intermediate school shines at robotics event

NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine Intermediate Robotics played host to a Vex IQ qualifier robotics competition Saturday, Feb. 16.

Forty-six teams from 17 schools, including 14 teams from Southern Hancock elementary schools and New Palestine Intermediate School, competed.

Tech Turtles, the sixth-grade team from NPI, comprised of Jake Cooper, Chase Shinkle, Jace Sutton and Tyler Wilson, came in first in the qualification, finals and skills challenge.

The Tech Turtles brought home two trophies, the Teamwork Champion Award for first place in the Teamwork Challenge Alliance, and the Robot Skills Champion Award for top combined Programming and Driving Skills Challenge score, both for robot performance.

The A Team, comprised of Andrew Hahn, Jackson Kamp, Kendall Steele and Brady Torzewski, ranked ninth in qualification, 11th in skills, and seventh overall in the finals.

Jamie Inskeep, NPI innovation specialist and robotics coach, and Jason Spicer, SCE teacher and robotics coach, sponsored the competition.
