GREENFIELD — Given the seasons that they had, it comes as little surprise that Hancock County athletes make up a huge portion of the Hoosier Heritage Conference’s All-HHC girls basketball team.

Twelve athletes were voted by coaches to this year’s All-HHC team, and players from New Palestine, Mt. Vernon and Greenfield-Central account for half of the list.

Sarah Gizzi of HHC champion New Palestine was voted the conference Coach of the Year.

"It is a wonderful honor to be named as HHC Coach of the Year," Gizzi said. "I truly enjoy and respect the coaches in our conference so it is special to be recognized by them. The girls played so hard and were so fun to coach, and it was a huge accomplishment for our team to be undefeated in conference play. I appreciate the players and the coaching staff for working so hard."

New Palestine had three members chosen to the team — Leah Seib, Jordan Reid and Haley Harrison — making the Dragons the most well-represented team in the conference. Seib and Harrison are seniors; Reid is a junior.

"To have three players make the all-HHC team was just fantastic," Gizzi said. "We have very strong players in our league, and it is so awesome for our program to have Leah, Haley and Jordan chosen from our team."

Mt. Vernon and Pendleton Heights had two selections each. Marauders junior Sydnee Perry and sophomore Lexi Shelton were each named to the team after a sectional-championship winning season.

The county’s leading scorer, Hannah Farrell from Greenfield-Central, a junior, also was named to the team. She was the HHC’s second-leading scorer behind New Castle’s sole All-HHC selection, senior Cameron Tabor.

Other non-county players who were selected were Delta freshman Gracie Gilland, Pendleton Heights senior Kailyn Graham and junior Megan Mills, Shelbyville senior Olivia Knarr and Yorktown sophomore Elizabeth Reece.
