Former Cougars standout earns weekly honors

Drey Jameson, a 2017 Greenfield-Central graduate, earned two big weekly awards for his season-opening performance on the mound against No. 12 Stanford.

The Ball State pitcher was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week after throwing six no-hit innings while striking out nine in a 2-1 loss. He also was named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s National Players of the Week.

It was the second time Jameson, a sophomore, has earned MAC Player of the Week honors. He was 7-2 last year, earning the 2018 MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year award and being voted first team all-conference.

New Palestine grad part of historic day

Samuel Voelz, a 2017 New Palestine graduate who won a state title for the Dragons track team that year, was part of a huge day for the Notre Dame track and field team on Saturday.

The Irish broke several records in their final home meet of the year, including several marks set by the distance medley relay team that Voelz is a part of. That group combined for a time of 9:26.10, setting a program record and the nation-leading time this season.

Their finish was just 0.12 seconds off the all-time NCAA record, giving the Irish the second-fastest time ever in the event.
