NEW PALESTINE — Zion Lutheran School students recently adjourned to the gym for a pep rally ahead of the area Lutheran School Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Tournament hosted by the hometown team.

Zion Lutheran School cheerleaders and cheer clinic participants kicked off the festivities by leading the students in cheers and performing their halftime routine. All winter sport team members from varsity and junior varsity girls basketball, varsity and junior varsity boys basketball and the cheerleading squad were invited to come down on the court.

All five groups competed in a minute-to-win-it style competition. The first challenge — won by the cheerleaders — involved being able to bounce five pencils — eraser first — into five separate cups. For the second challenge, competitors had to fly paper airplanes through a hoop. This competition was won by the varsity boys team. Varsity girls and junior-varsity boys tied at rolling ping pong balls around an obstacle from one end of the table to the other. With all the other teams eliminated, the junior varsity boys earned overall winning honors with the tic-tac-toe challenge. Varsity Girls and JV Boys tied for first, so Varsity Boys were eliminated.
