To the editor:
There is to be a public hearing concerning the increase of the local income tax to fund the jail at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Hancock County Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place.
At this meeting, your questions and concerns will be addressed. Information will be forthcoming on the cost and design of the jail.
As we progress through this procedure, transparency on a project of this magnitude is imperative.
The crisis is real, and we have no alternative but to address it head-on. If there is a solution other than raising taxes, which affects everyone — elected officials included — let us know. Spread the word. Let your voices be heard, either in person or by writing one of your representatives.
