Marauders win first HHC title

NEW PALESTINE — The Mt. Vernon Marauders made history at Friday night’s Hoosier Heritage Conference wrestling championships, winning the first conference title in school history by outlasting Pendleton Heights in the championship round.

The teams were neck and neck and faced off at multiple weight classes in the finals, but the Marauders prevailed by a narrow margin. Pendleton Heights finished second, and Greenfield-Central was third. The hosts, New Palestine, finished sixth.

Mt. Vernon had winners at three classes, with Chris Wilkerson (138 pounds), Drake Kendrex (170) and PJ Sterrett (182) all winning. Greenfield-Central had two champions, Gavin Rose (132) and Cooper Noehre (152). New Palestine had two champions as well, Christian White (113) and Noah Wright (145).
