Girls basketball

Cougars get past Plainfield

Greenfield-Central hosted Plainfield on Tuesday night, jumping out to a big early lead and holding on for a 54-51 home victory.

Hannah Farrell led all scorers with 19 points and had a huge overall game, adding 12 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. Also in double digits were Crystal Peterson with 11 and Addie Hill with 10 points. Hill had a double-double on the night, adding 11 rebounds.

The win improves the Cougars record to 8-10 on the year.

Dragons fall in ranked battle

New Palestine’s 12-game winning streak was snapped Tuesday in a 57-49 loss at Triton Central.

Ranked 15th in the IBCA single-class poll, the Dragons are now 16-2 on the season. Triton Central, ranked No. 3 in the ICGSA Class 2A poll, is now 17-1.

Haley Harrison led the Dragons with 17 points. Leah Seib added 10. Jordan Reid and Katie Herron scored seven each. Megan Jolly tallied five points, while Tatum Biddle scored three.

Swimming

Dragons sweep Beech Grove

The New Palestine swim teams swept a dual meet Tuesday against Beech Grove.

The New Palestine girls won 132-47, while the Dragon boys won 105-78.

In the girls meet, three Dragons won four events. Maria Virt was part of two winning relays and also won the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Cassy Moorman also won two relays, the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Jessica Rogers won two relays, the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Karen Shriver and Samantha Booe went 1-2 in diving. Jordan Owens won the 100 breaststroke.

New Palestine swept the relays, with Virt, Claire Whisler, Rogers and Moorman winning the 200 medley relay. Bailey Young, Kaylynn Crawmer, Kayleigh Wright and Owens won the 100 free relay. Rogers, Virt, Maigan Williams and Moorman won the 400 free relay.

For the Dragon boys, Marlon Cabrera, Kyle Ellis, Tyler Corey and Jack Schwartz opened the meet by winning the 100 free relay. Cabrera also won the 200 free relay. Schwartz won the 50 freestyle, while Ellis won the 100 breastsroke. Corey and Cabrera went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly. Damon Estes and Schwartz went 1-2 in the 100 freestyle.

Dragons open year with win

New Palestine team opened its season Tuesday with a 98.275 to 94.325 victory at Connersville.

Grace Shanahan had two event victories and was the all-around champion with a score of 34.425. She won on bars (8.65) and floor exercise (9.125). Shanahan was also second on beam (8.4) and fourth on vault (8.25).

Kennedy Garrett won the balance beam (8.95) and finished second in the all-around (32.275). She was third on floor (8.325).

Alyse Rickey was fifth in the all-around (30.625). She finished fifth on vault (8.225) and beam (7.55). She was also third on bars (7.475). Emma Poag placed fifth on bars (7.25).
