GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Commissioners gave the OK for the county assessor’s office to nix a $90,000 consultant contract, an issue that was a point of contention in last year’s primary race.

The assessor’s office previously contracted with Nexus Group, a company that provides auditing and legal help with county assessments on real property and personal property abatements. That cost $90,000 a year, and the county had been outsourcing those services since 2001, former assessor Mary Noe has said.

Katie Molinder, who started her first term as assessor on Wednesday, asked the commissioners to cancel the contract on Thursday morning. She ran on that issue in the primary against fellow Republican Cindy Roberts. Molinder plans for her office to do that work in house.

The commissioners unanimously approved terminating the contract, giving Nexus a 30-day notice.
