The New Palestine girls basketball team clinched at least a share of the Hoosier Heritage Conference title Saturday, rallying in the second half to beat Yorktown 39-36.

The victory gives the Dragons their first HHC girls basketball title since 1994, the first year for the conference. The Dragons are now 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the HHC.

Leah Seib led New Palestine with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. She added five rebounds. Jordan Reid scored 10 points and had four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Katie Herron tallied nine points.

Cougars edge past Delta

Greenfield-Central’s girls basketball team found itself in another close game Saturday, topping Hoosier Heritage Conference opponent Delta 61-58 at home.

Leading all scorers was Hannah Farrell with 28 points. Lydia McIntire had 12, Crystal Peterson added nine, and both Addie Hill and Keryna Barrett had six for the Cougars.

Marauders fall to North Central

Mt. Vernon’s girls took to the road Saturday for a tough matchup against North Central, and the Marauders fell to the hosts, 64-49.

Lexi Shelton led all scorers in the game, pouring in 29 points in the defeat.

Boys basketball

Dragons get past Flashes

New Palestine rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit Saturday to seize the lead in the fourth quarter and beat Franklin Central 67-63.

Maximus Gizzi scored 26 points, including 15-of-18 from the line, to lead the way. It was his third 20-point game of the season and was one shy of his career high. Matthew True added 20 points, hitting three 3-pointers.

Royals top Golden Eagles

Eastern Hancock won a home non-conference game against Cambridge City Lincoln on Saturday, prevailing 62-57.

Four Royals scored in double figures, led by 14 points from Landon O’Neal. Peyton Gray added 13 points, and Bradyn Smith and Joey Starrett each added 10. Smith completed a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Swimming

Cougars finish in 4th

Greenfield-Central competed in Saturday’s Hamilton Southeastern Splash N’ Clash event, and the boys and girls each finished with fourth-place finishes out of seven teams.

The girls were led by Carley Logan, who finished second in the 500 Free and third in the 200 Free.

On the boys side, Travis Black won the 50 Free and 100 Free. Sam Jennings finished second in the 200 Free and 500 Free. The 400 Free Relay of Jennings, Sammy Logan, Anthony Nagel and Black finished second. The same four finished third in the 200 Medley Relay. Logan also earned a third-place finish in the 100 Fly.

Wrestling

Royals get Super 6 win

Eastern Hancock competed in the Blackford Super 6 Duals on Saturday, and the Royals came home with the first-place trophy.

The Royals topped a field including Bluffton, Blackford, Tri-Central, Northfield and Southwood to pick up the victory.
