GREENFIELD — Fresh off its separation from Eli Lilly and Co., Elanco Animal Health posted strong earnings in its first report since the change.

Third-quarter global revenue grew 9 percent over the same period last year to $761.1 million, which puts the Greenfield-based company on track to earn between $3.05 billion and $3.08 billion in 2018, the company said in a news release this week.

CEO Jeff Simmons said the numbers should be encouraging to investors.

“We are well positioned as a stand-alone company, are in full execution mode, and believe our results this quarter reflect the strength of our business," he said.

Elanco stock hit the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 19 with a $1.5 billion initial public offering. Investors have responded positively: after opening at $24 a share, the stock has been trading at more then $33.
