Library offers tips for genealogical research

GREENFIELD — Librarian Paul McNeil will suggest ways to make searches through newspaper databases more fruitful during a genealogy session from 7 to 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road. Besides obituaries, genealogists can often find other newspaper clues to an ancestor’s past, such as snippets on marriages, hobbies, clubs or even criminal activities. Rockler Woodworking offers fall projects

INDIANAPOLIS — Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, 8452 Castleton-Corner Dr., offers make-and-take woodworking projects for the month of October. Projects include: a turned pen, a cribbage board, a whiskey barrel stave candle holder and a custom knife. Participants can sign up for any or all of the classes and leave with a completed project after each class. Plans, overview videos and materials will also be available online for those who want to make the projects on their own. Registration for each class is $50. Acrylic pour class offered at studio

GREENFIELD — Create one-of-a-kind designs at an acrylic pour class from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Indie Art Studio, 2 W. Main St. Part art, part science, acrylic pouring is new approach to painting. Instead of using a brush, paint is poured on the canvas and uses gravity to create a design. The class will cover terms used in pouring, techniques and how to manipulate the paint to get unique effects. Each participant will create a set of four square canvases.
