St. John church welcomes new pastor

CUMBERLAND — Janna Meyers has been called to serve as pastor at St. John United Church of Christ. She began her ministry with the congregation Sept. 10.

A native of California, Meyers is a graduate of Williamette University. She graduated with honors from Union Theological Seminary in New York City, earning a master’s degree in church history and theology.

She has been serving churches for more than 10 years in Oregon, Connecticut, New York and Indiana. She most recently served as the director of programs and ministries at Southport’s St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Meyers’ area of ministry specialties are faith formation and church life ministries. “Having served for many years as a youth and family minister, she loves kids and greatly enjoys a good church pitch-in!” according to a press release from the church.

Meyers said she is excited to be serving a congregation with a deep passion for caring for the community and residents of the Far Eastside of Indianapolis and Hancock County.

Meyers and her husband have a 2-year-old son. She is also a knitter, slow runner, hiker, Agatha Christie enthusiast, “and a passionate ice cream lover and cheese eater!” according to the release.

The church is located on the corner of Prospect Street and Carroll Road (11910 E. Prospect St.). Services are at 10 a.m. Sundays.

Wild Horse Ministries family event coming

GREENFIELD — See a wild horse that’s never been ridden before surrender to the touch of a master horseman.

Paul Dailey’s Wild Horse Ministries will be at Curry’s Chapel United Methodist Church for a family event at 4 p.m. Sunday. Bring your lawn chairs.

Walk-ins welcome at blood drive

GREENFIELD — The Bloodmobile will be located in the Bradley United Methodist Church parking lot, 210 W. Main St., Greenfield, from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 15.

To donate, you must be at least 19 years old (parent/guardian consent is needed for donors 16-19 years old) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. You must also pass a brief mini-physical and health history screening, be healthy, and bring your ID.

To schedule a donation, go to DonorPoint.org by midnight Oct. 14. Walk-ins are accepted.

Gospel sing set in Knightstown

KNIGHTSTOWN — The McFarland Family from Cincinnati will be featured in a gospel sing at 6 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 6) at Knightstown Church of God, 405 North St., Knightstown.

Catholic women invited to ‘Come and See’

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS —The Sisters of Providence Come and See Weekend Retreat will take place Oct. 26-28 at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

The retreat is free and is for single, Catholic women ages 18-42 to see if God is calling them to a life as a Sister of Providence.

Women can spend time with sisters in prayer, ask younger sisters any questions they may have and get to know the group’s foundress, Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, all while exploring where God may be calling them.
