NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine assistant softball coach Alyssa Dillard has been named the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year at the high school level.

In 10 years as the varsity assistant, Dillard has helped New Palestine to three state championships, including the past two seasons. The former high school catcher handles pitch-calling duties and works with pitchers, while providing her collegiate third base experience to the infielders during practice.

She has passed up several head coaching positions in the past few years to stay with the Dragons program.

“I’m very proud of her accomplishments on and off the field. Wife, mom, daughter, teacher and coach,” New Palestine softball coach Ed Marcum, Alyssa’s father, said. “Alyssa has been an incredible teacher of the game and understands all aspects of what it takes to win. During the game she coaches first, helps with decisions, calls pitches and motivates. Alyssa expects things to be done the right way and is a great role model as someone who has experienced this game at all levels.”
