Riley Festival Baker’s Best contest to feature cherries

GREENFIELD — Greenfield bakers are invited to feature their favorite cherry recipes in this year’s Riley Festival Baker’s Best contest. The contest is open to any Hancock County resident or member of the Hancock County Extension Homemakers. The categories and quantities for entries include: six cookies or dessert bars; one cake or six cupcakes; one pie, tart or cobbler; quick breads: one loaf, six muffins, biscuits or scones; yeast breads: one loaf, one tea ring or six rolls (dinner or sweet); other baked goods — cheesecakes are allowed, but they must be refrigerated and brought to the contest in a cooler or insulated container. All entries, made by the exhibitor must feature cherries in the baked or filling portion of the product. Entries must be turned in between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hancock County Extension Office Meeting Room, 802 N. Apple St. Visit for the printable entry form.

Riley Festival Home Arts & Quilt Show calls for entries

GREENFIELD — Crafters, bakers, collectors, quilters and more are invited to compete in the 2018 Riley Festival Home Arts and Quilt Show. Competition categories include food preparation, food preservation, quilting, sewing, needlecraft, painting, dolls, toys, wood and leatherworking, antiques and collectibles. Judging categories are age 16 and under and age 17 and older. Entries are due from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place.
