Girls soccer

Cougars shut out Woodmen

Greenfield-Central won its fourth straight game on the road, defeating the Greenwood Woodmen 6-0 in a non conference game Monday.

Rita Aguye-Cots continued her scoring ways as she struck first for the Cougars on a free kick. Kesli McLaughlin then scored on a penalty kick.

In the second half, Anne Marie DeKeyser opened the scoring. Kennedy Trapp then scored on another PK. McLaughlin and DeKeyser chipped in another goal each before the end of the match. Alex Rupley, McLaughlin and Aguye-Cots also picked up an assist a piece.

The Cougars held the Woodsmen to one shot on goal. The Cougars defense held strong for their second shut out of the season. 

Tennis

Dragons top Arabians

New Palestine beat conference foe Pendleton Heights 3-2 Monday, improving to 4-1 in Hoosier Heritage Conference play.

Matthew True and Carson Gavin each posted victories at singles, with both winning by 6-0, 6-2 scores. The No. 1 doubles team of Dane Reid and Ben Blachly won 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the match. 

Marauders lose for first time

Mt. Vernon picked up an extra match due to rainouts, traveling to Lapel on Monday in what would be its first loss of the season. The hosts won, 3-2.

The Marauders got their points from No. 2 and No. 3 singles, with Chris Hays and Sam McCarty each picking up 6-0, 6-2 wins.

After losses at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, the match came down to No. 2 doubles. Mt. Vernon’s Sam Frye and Jackson Dunlavy fought hard but fell short, losing 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.

Mt. Vernon is now 10-1 on the season.

Royals fall to Frankton

Eastern Hancock lost at home to Frankton on Monday, 4-1.

The Royals picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, with Peyton Robertson and Sammy Blocher getting a 6-4, 6-2, victory. John McDaniel took the first set at No. 3 singles, but fell in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Cougars lose to Shelbyville

Greenfield-Central fell at home to HHC foe Shelbyville on Monday, 4-1. 

Seth Kirkpatrick picked up the Cougars’ point at No. 3 singles.

Volleyball

Royals win in 3 sets

Eastern Hancock swept past Randolph Southern on Monday, picking up a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 win on the road.

The Royals are now 6-12 on the season.
