Super hero Chalkfest seeking participants

GREENFIELD — Sidewalk chalk artists are invited to share their talents at the 9th annual Chalkfest, Sept. 15 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Courthouse Plaza, 9 E. Main St. The theme for this year’s event, sponsored by Greenfield Main Street and the Hancock County Arts and Cultural Council, is super heroes. Cash prizes will be given in several age groups. Woodlands management class open for registration

GREENFIELD — Purdue Extension-Hancock County in cooperation with the Greenfield Parks Department presents “Common Sense Management of Your Woodlot for Pleasure or Profit — Protecting the Woodlot from both Legal and Biological Threats” Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thornwood Preserve, 1597 S. Morristown Pike. This two-hour free walk in the woods will focus on invasive plants, insects and diseases along with the legal protection of the woodland including zoning and tax-related issues, adjacent agriculture drift and public access/trespass. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear footwear appropriate for a walk in the woods. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended.

Nameless Creek Literary Club to meet Wednesday

GREENFIELD — The next meeting of the Nameless Creek Literary Club will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Betty Foster. Denise Akers will be the hostess. The attendance response will be ‘Your Childhood Nickname.’ Devotions will be led by Jane Dobbs and the program will be the installation of the new officers.
