Marauders blast past Shelbyville

Mt. Vernon hosted Shelbyville on Tuesday, rolling to a 12-0 win.

The Marauders were led by Cleo Mills, who scored five goals. She had a hat trick in the first 15 minutes of the game and was taken out until the second half, where she scored two more goals.

Brianna Hale, Shay Stindle and Riley Hurst each had a goal and assist, Morgan Tharp had two goals, Anna Miller and Katie Gawrys had a goal each, Rylie Pearson had two assists, and Riley Britt and Alexi Hardie each had an assist.

Jaici Wright got the shutout in goal. The Marauders are now 7-0.

Cougars get conference victory

Greenfield-Central survived a tough Pendleton Heights team Tuesday, edging the Arabians for a 3-2 comeback win.

The Cougars led 1-0 at halftime, only to see Pendleton Heights put up the next two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. The Cougars came back to win by scoring two goals in the final 24 minutes.

Tyler Murphy was named captain and had two assists. Jackson Findley had one assist. Zack Bell scored two goals. Trevor Sawyer had one goal, which was the game winner with less than five minutes to play.

Eastern Hancock falls in 3rd match

Eastern Hancock finally got its third match of the season in Tuesday after two cancellations, falling 4-1 to Hagerstown.

The Royals got their point from No. 1 singles player Kodey Huff, a 6-3, 6-3 winner. Eastern Hancock is now 0-3 to start the season.

Dragons win thriller against Lapel

New Palestine tennis team won a 3-2 thriller Tuesday against Lapel to extend its winning streak to five matches.

The match ended up hinging on a three-setter at No. 1 doubles, where each set was decided by a break. Dane Reid and Ben Blachly eventually won 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 against Lapel’s Reid Ratzlaff and Ross Hagen to clinch the third point for the Dragons.

Earlier, Carson Gavin won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for his 40th career varsity victory. Trevor Darley won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Matthew True rallied in the second set but fell in a tiebreak 6-1, 7-6(3). At No. 2 doubles, Caleb Davis and Devon Bird fell 6-3, 7-5.

The Dragons are now 5-1 on the season.

Volleyball

New Palestine drops 4-set match

New Palestine dropped a four-set match Tuesday at home to Zionsville, falling 25-21, 25-14, 23-25, 25-13.

Lauren Dodd had 11 kills for the Dragons. Lydia Jones had 12 kills and eight digs. Kaelyn Armstrong added seven kills and Jesi Hall five. Sydney Robertson had 31 assists and 10 digs.

Audrey VanderWal had 14 digs and Rylie Sturgeon 10 to lead the defense.

The Dragons are now 6-2 on the season.

Marauders move to 9-0 with win

Mt. Vernon improved to 9-0 on the year with a victory Tuesday against Brownsburg, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16

Five Marauders had more than five kills, with Claire Ertel leading the way with nine. Ertel added 17 digs, and Cecilia Bulmahn and Sophie Schultz had 15 digs each.

Victoria Bulmahn had four aces, 11 digs, four blocks and 22 assists to go with her seven kills.

Cougars get HHC win against Delta

Greenfield-Central opened Hoosier Heritage Conference play Tuesday night with a three set sweep of the Delta Eagles, 25-20, 25-20, 27-25.

The Cougars now have won seven straight matches and extends their set winning streak to 21 straight.

Makayla Price led the way with 13 kills. Ava Antic added 10 kills and 16 digs. Morgan Hornaday had 33 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Hannah Burkhart had 15 digs and Morgan Grigsby added 11.

Antic recorded her fifth double-double on the season.
