Boys soccer

Marauders take win

Mt. Vernon took to the road to visit Beech Grove on Thursday, defeating the Hornets 8-0 to improve to 4-0 on the year.

Jacob Knepper had a hat trick in the first half, with Tylin Broaders and Logan Angelopulos adding two goals, and Matt Thompson finished the night off with a goal of his own.

Great defense and keeper play helped the Marauders record another shut out. Mt. Vernon has allowed just one goal in four games this fall.

Dragons fall to Flashes

New Palestine dropped a 4-1 decision Thursday on the road at Franklin Central.

Zach Martin scored the Dragons’ goal in the second half off a penalty kick. The PK was drawn by Luke Gohmann with a great run into the box, where he was fouled.

Dragons get win

New Palestine won its Hoosier Heritage Conference opener Thursday, beating host New Castle 3-0.

The Dragons controlled the game throughout, with goalkeepers Haley Weinrich and Riley Moss making six saves between them.

Maddy Miller put the Dragons ahead 1-0 with a ball that was deflected by New Castle’s goalkeeper. Edin Hurst headed in Victoria Crowder’s corner kick to make it 2-0. Megan Jolly extended the lead to 3-0 by sneaking a shot past the Trojans’ goalkeeper on a feed from Olivia Lambdin.

The Dragons are now 4-1 on the season.

Cougars roll to HHC win

Greenfield-Central started off slow but found their groove in the second half Thursday, scoring six goals to secure their first conference win of the season, 8-2 against Yorktown.

The Cougars fell behind early in the first but worked their way back into the game. Anne Marie DeKeyser ended the game with three goals and two assists, Lucy Brand scored a goal and had three assists, Rita Aguye-Cots scored twice and Kelsi McLaughlin also scored twice and had an assist. Teagan King added in her first assist of the season.

Schyler Slunaker had seven saves on the night. The Cougars defense tightened up in the second half, allowing few opportunities on goal in the last 40 minutes.

The Cougars are now 3-1 on the season.

Marauders take loss

Mt. Vernon was defeated for the first time this season, falling 188 to 215 on the road at Heritage Christian.

They are now 7-1 on the season.

Royals swing to win

Eastern Hancock picked up a victory Thursday, topping Northeastern 217 to 244.

Daly Pelger was medalist with a 44. Jocelyn Duncan and Shelby Jackson helped with a 53 and 58. Bella Parker finished with a 62 for the Royals.

Marauders win again

Mt. Vernon traveled to Centerville for the first time in school history Thursday and came away with a hard-fought 3-2 win.

The Marauders No. 2 doubles team of Sam Frye and Jackson Dunlavy dominated from the start and won 6-1, 6-1.

Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 doubles team of Braeden Browing and Peyton Meadors picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win.

No. 3 singles player Sam McCarty saved the best for last, starting the match down 0-3 and then rallying to win the next 12 games in a row to secure the win 6-3, 6-0.

Dragons get home win

New Palestine won its third match in as many days Thursday, beating Shenandoah 4-1 at home.

The Dragons clinched the three points to win quickly. Matthew True won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Carson Gavin won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles team of Ben Blachly and Dane Reid won 6-0, 6-0.

Jeremy Wagoner and Caleb Davis won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, with Davis winning his varsity debut. At No. 3 singles, Trevor Darley fell in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

The Dragons are now 3-1 on the season.

Volleyball

Dragons win 3rd in row

New Palestine won its third match in as many nights Thursday, sweeping host Whiteland 25-9, 25-15, 25-19.

Lydia Jones had 17 kills. Sydney Robertson had 33 assists, six digs, three kills and three blocks. Jesi Hall added nine kills and two blocks.

The Dragons are now 6-1 on the season.

Marauders move to 8-0

Mt. Vernon hit the road for their first conference match of the season on Thursday. Pendleton Heights came out on fire and derailed the Marauders in the first set, but Mt. Vernon rallied to win 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-16.

The Marauder defense carried the team to a 3-1 victory and their eighth straight win to start the season. Rachel Pilkington hit .412 on the match. Victoria Bulmahn put up 32 assists, four blocks and six kills in the winning effort.

The defense was led by 20 digs from Sophie Shultz. Also in double figure digs was Victoria Bulmahn with 12, Cecilia Bulmahn with 16, Lillie Perdue with 12 and Claire Ertel with 10. Ertel completed the double-double with 12 kills. Cecilia Bulmahn topped the serving attack with four aces.
