Honor Sunday recognizes first responders

GREENFIELD — Brandywine Community Church in Greenfield recognized all first responders in the community, active and retired, during an Honor Sunday in July.

All local department chiefs were invited, as well as Greenfield Mayor Chuck Fewell, a retired Indiana State Police officer.

Those attending were given a devotional book written for their particular profession.

Church is serving up Sundae’s on a Sunday

GREENFIELD — Otterbein United Methodist Church offers a free community ice cream social from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 at the church, 2901 W. County Road 200N.

It will feature Sundae’s Homemade Ice Cream, vanilla and chocolate, with a variety of toppings. Organizers say it’s a chance to meet the neighbors, share fellowship and enjoy some of the area’s best ice cream.

‘Hello, Greenfield!’ to feature food, games

GREENFIELD — The second annual “Hello, Greenfield!” community event is set for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Evangel Christian Church, 1221 E. Main St.

This free event will feature food, games, prizes, vendor booths, bounce houses and more.

GriefShare classes start Aug. 28

GREENFIELD — GriefShare meetings run from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Aug. 28 and concluding Nov. 20, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1741 S. State St., Greenfield.

The group is led by people who have experienced grief and successfully rebuilt their lives. The program is nondenominational and features biblical concepts for healing from your grief.

GriefShare starts Aug. 30 at Zion Lutheran

NEW PALESTINE — GriefShare at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine is scheduled to take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays from Aug. 30 to Dec. 6.

Those in need can attend an orientation session from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the church, 6513 W. County Road 300 S.

GriefShare is a weekly video seminar featuring renowned experts on grief recovery topics.

Each seminar is combined with a small group discussion time to allow participants to talk about the seminar and how they are dealing with the death of a loved one.

Fish fry meal coming to Methodist church

GREENFIELD — Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3447 S. State Road 9, will serve a fish fry from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 18).

The menu will include fried fish, french fries, hush puppies, baked beans, slaw, desserts and beverages. Hot dogs and carry-out also will be available.

Donations will be accepted, with proceeds used for missions and special projects.

Breakfast set in McCordsville

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church’s next community breakfast is set for 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 18) at the church, 6247 W. Broadway, McCordsville.

Love INC plans 5K, church expo

GREENFIELD — The Love Runs Deep 5K Run/Walk is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 22 on the Pennsy Trail.

A Kids’ Dash for ages 12 and younger starts at 9:15. There is no cost to children to participate.

The 5K begins at 9:30. Registration is $25 per person or $100 for a team of five. A free T-shirt and sling bag will be available for participants 13 and older.

Local church offers Monday worship

CUMBERLAND — “Monday: The Bookend of the Weekend” is a summer worship service at 6:30 p.m. Mondays at St. John United Church of Christ, 11910 E. Prospect St.

It’s a weekday worship service for those who cannot attend Sunday or just want to attend an evening of worship and music. Ice cream will be served.
