Walter Emerson Willits, 78, of Cumberland, IN passed away July 25, 2018. He was born March 12, 1940, in Indianapolis, IN to parents Hilda (Ross) and Donald Willits. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Judy (Harper) Willits; daughters: Dawn Wilson, Melissa Willits, Pam Eccles; brothers: Theodore Willits, Richard (Abbie) Willits; grandchildren: Tyler Wyatt, Lauren Wyatt, Allen Eccles; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald B. and William “Bill” Willits; and sister, Betty Blackmier.

After graduating from Howe High School in 1958, he joined the United States Navy. When he returned, he went to work for McCullum Paper Company who was later bought by Ris Paper Company, both as a paper salesman. After retiring from Ris he went to work for Now Courier. At the time of his death he worked for Mid America Clinical Laboratories.

Walter was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. He enjoyed wood working and slot car racing. His two favorite quotes were: “I know who I am and Whose I am,” and also, “Remember who you are and what you stand for.”

Services will be Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service at New Palestine United Methodist Church, 3565 Co. Rd. 500 W, New Palestine, IN. Visitation will be Friday, August 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Wesler and Pastor John Thomas. Burial will be at Washington Park East.
