Gathering to feature food, classic cars

GREENFIELD — A barbecue dinner, classic cars, a school supply drive and children’s activities are planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in downtown Greenfield.

Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is planning this seventh annual community event, which has grown from an ice cream social to also include a barbecue dinner and is offered free to the community. (A free-will offering will be accepted.)

Organizers also plan to gather school supplies for the Backpack Attack program. Local school supply lists are typically available at Walmart and Kroger, or on school websites, for those wanting to know what is needed. No. 2 pencils, Crayola crayons, pink rectangular erasers, glue sticks, hand sanitizer and tissues are among frequently sought items.

The menu again includes a pulled pork dinner with baked beans, chips, drinks and ice cream. A disc jockey will keep the music going, and there will be a classic car “cruise-in,” an inflatable, a water balloon launcher, face painting and other children’s activities. Representatives of the Greenfield Police Department and Greenfield Fire Department will be on hand to show their vehicles and equipment.
