Insurance group hires new agent

Steffey Hatoway Insurance has hired a new agent to work in the firm’s New Palestine office.

Julie Kennedy, who worked for the company back in 1994 before leaving in 1996, has returned after spending more than 20 years working with Central Insurance Associates.

Kennedy, a Mt. Vernon graduate, said she’s glad to be back in the county she grew up in, and is looking forward to be back working for an independent agency.

“I love being back in as mall town where I know the people we’re working with,” Kennedy said. “I’m very excited to be back.”

Pendleton approves $14 million complex

Westfield-based developer Klipsch-Card Athletic Facilities LLC has received approval to build a $14 million sports and health center in Pendleton, town officials announced.

The Pendleton council approved the project, along with a $3.2 million incentive package to help encourage the development.

The 115,000-square-foot building will include space for eight tennis courts, gymnastics, weight training, yoga and wellness. A café and day care facilities also are part of the plan.

The incentive package, according to the Pendleton Times-Post, includes 25 acres of donated land from the town, $1 million for construction costs, and $1.45 million paid in 180 monthly installments of about $8,000 each.

Another speculative building planned

Philadelphia-based Exeter Property Group has announced it’s developing land on the west side of Interstate 65 at Highway 267 for a huge industrial building in the Whitestown Business Park.

Indianapolis-based GDI Construction Group is slated to build the roughly 635,000-square-foot facility, which could later be expanded to more than 1 million square feet. Construction is expected to be completed in December. Exeter, who will be the building’s owner, hopes to have a tenant for the facility by then.

The building is part of Exeter’s Whitestown Business Park project. Overall, its plans to eventually build 1.74 million square feet at the location for a total investment of $45.6 million.
