NEW PALESTINE

William D. (Bill) Carter, 82, of New Palestine, IN went to live with his loving Father in Heaven on Father’s Day, June 17, 2018, in Hancock Regional Hospital, surrounded by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Maryellen (Folkening), children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He was born August 10, 1935, in Indianapolis to the late William J. Carter and Iva Mae (Caughey) Carter. He grew up in New Palestine and graduated from New Palestine High School in 1954. He and Maryellen were married on December 16, 1956, in Zion Lutheran Church, in New Palestine, where they are still very active members.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, and he was a wonderful father and grandfather to daughter, Karmen Carter from Denver, Colorado; his sons, all from New Palestine, IN, Kevin (Darla) Carter, Kent (Linda) Carter, Kyle (Candace) Carter; grandchildren, Mark (Erin) Carter, Hanna (Austin) Cripps, Haley (Nic) Elizondo, Leah Carter, Colin Carter, and one precious little great granddaughter, Asher Elizondo; two sisters, Jackie (Jerry) Fisher, Pam (Richard) Mann; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews and lots of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LaDonna Lacey, Betty Kight; and brother, James Carter.

Bill was employed at Indianapolis Water Co. for almost 40 years where he retired 20 years ago.

Bill was very active in sports in High School and continued his love for sports, as a coach in Little League, baseball, and was an avid fan of IU basketball, Notre Dame football, and Nascar Racing, especially a fan of Jeff Gordon. He loved watching all of his children and grandchildren whenever they participated in any sports. He and his wife followed his granddaughters as they continued in travel basketball and softball.

He was always a firm believer that if it needs to be fixed, he could do it! And his boys have learned that talent from him. He was always there to lend a helping hand, a listening ear and possessed a loving heart for all.

He loved gardening, woodworking, antiquing, spending time with his family, and over the years, parties with his many friends.

Visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W 300 South, New Palestine, IN, where he and his family were active members, and always there to share a smile and his love for God. It will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. There will also be a chance for friends to visit with the family on Thursday, June 21, at 10 a.m. with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery to follow at 11 a.m. followed by a light lunch.
