FORTVILLE — Mt. Vernon’s girls tennis program recently picked up several more accolades for their sectional-winning team, as all three of the team’s seniors will participate in Sunday’s All Star Cup at Marian University.

Mt. Vernon’s No. 1 singles player Alaina Nelson and the No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Spicer and Sophie Williams have been selected to the North team on the ICGSA North/South Tennis All Star Cup. The event will be at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The All Star Cup features 24 players from across the state, with 12 players on each team.

“It’s just a fun couple hours to play tennis one more time, to get recognized,” Mt. Vernon coach Gabe Muterspaugh said. “It’s a great way to finish your high school career, to play tennis one more time but not have all the pressure.

“It’s pretty fitting that they will go out together, all getting to participate. It’s very rewarding for me to see them get the success and recognition they’ve had.”

The three seniors also were named to the All-District team, as was freshman No. 2 singles player Lydia Ruegsegger.

New Palestine’s No. 1 doubles team of seniors Claire Cherry and Josee King, who made it to the regionals of the state tournament, also were named to the All-District team.
