To the editor:

I’m writing in response to the article (“City scales back exit design,” June 24, 2017, A1) written by Samm Quinn and the “cheesy” brown welcoming posts at the entrance/exit ramp of I 70. Let me propose a couple of ideas and see if you can get some community support.

See if you could get sponsorship from area companies to construct an outdoor amphitheater on the property just east of the Greenfield library (the space between the ditch and the library). There could be a large sloped mound of dirt dividing the ditch and the amphitheater that could be used for family seating, such as what they have at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the outfield of Victory Field. The public could use the restroom facilities in the lobby of the library and the parking lot. My wife and I visit the beautiful outdoor amphitheater at Craig Park in Greenwood several times a year and see it as a great community event. I would encourage you to experience this family atmosphere during one of the many planned summer concerts this year. This, too, would be a great asset to Greenfield to promote a family friendly environment. This venue could be used as a Fourth of July festival area for the fireworks set off from the nearby school as well as local schools could also use this facility for graduation and outdoor theater events.

I’ve included a link for the Craig Park Amphitheater for your convenience (greenwood.in.gov/topic/blocks.php?topicid=126). I, as well as thousands of other citizens, will pass by these posts daily and get very little out of them. If I was considering a community to relocate my family to I would give little weight to “Welcome to Greenfield” posts, however a safe family venue to gather would weigh heavily on my decision.

Also, how about placing a large cougar similar to the one in the Greenfield end zone in the center of the Franklin Street/McKenzie Road roundabout facing the soccer fields.

Thank you for all that you do to promote our great city!
