Summer art camp open to children

GREENFIELD — Indie Art Studio, 2 W. Main St., will host a four-day art camp from 9 a.m. to noon June 25 through 28 for children ages 5 to 8. Over the course of the four days, campers will study famous self-portraits and then create their own. Kids will experiment with a variety of art materials to create drawings, paintings and collages centered around their individual personalities and passions. This camp, based on self-reflection, will encourage children to reflect on what they enjoy, where they like to be and what their favorite things are to turn self-reflection into tangible works of art. At the culmination of the camp, parents are invited to an exhibition of the students’ work. All supplies are included. Students should bring a snack and a water bottle for each day. Registration is $100 at indieartstudio.com.

INDIANAPOLIS — Spots are still open to attend Civil War Camp at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, 1230 N. Delaware. The camp, limited to 20 participants age 9 through 12, runs daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 16 through 20. In this authentic camp experience, young leaders join Colonel Benjamin Harrison — who eventually became president of the United States — as he embarks on a journey that will change his life as a soldier in America’s Civil War. The camp offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity for new “recruits” to enlist, drill, train and explore first-hand what it was like to serve the Union army in the 70th Indiana. Participants will explore what it takes to be a good soldier, citizen and leader using real stories from Colonel Benjamin Harrison’s Civil War experience.
